Marine Band

The Marine band is between 156 and 174 MHz, used by vessels of all sizes as well as land based stations such as ports and locks. Handheld marine band radios typically cost up to £200 due to their waterproof and floating abilities in case they are dropped into water. Channels of designated frequencies are used for communication between ship to ship or ship to shore but a radio scanner or a handheld transceiver like this TYT can also pick up transmissions if you’re close to waterways or busy ports.
